How to Administer an EpiPen: A Life-Saving Guide for Anaphylaxis

An adrenaline auto-injector can save the life of someone who is having a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). If you think you or someone you know is experiencing an anaphylaxis, use the adrenaline autoinjector immediately, then call an ambulance on triple zero (000).

Adrenaline auto-injectors are used to treat severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) in an emergency.

1. Lay the person flat.

2. Hold the adrenaline auto-injector firmly in your fist and pull off the blue safety release.

3. Hold the leg still and place the orange end against the outer mid-thigh.

4. Push down hard until you hear or feel a click.

5. Hold for 3 seconds.

6. Remove the adrenaline auto-injector.
